KinderCare Manalapan is Closing

We have just received notice that the KinderCare Manalapan location on Gordons Corner Road will permanently close its doors in June 2017.

We are sad to hear that KinderCare is leaving our community, and we understand that this can be a difficult transition. To assist KinderCare families, Manalapan Montessori is offering KinderCare students a $250 tuition credit per family.

Our caring staff will guide you through the process to ensure a seamless transition. A change in environment can be bumpy, and strive to make it as easy as possible.

How We Make it Easy

In our infant program, all that parents bring daily is their baby!  Manalapan Montessori supplies the diapers, Desitin, wipes, formula, organic milk and food. Our staff keeps each baby on his or her home schedule.

Our Toddler and Primary Programs are staffed by caring and welcoming teachers and classroom assistants. Each child will feel like they are coming to a home away from home.

Take a Tour

For more info about our school or to schedule a tour, call 732-536-8181 or fill our our online admissions form. Don’t forget to mention our KinderCare offer.

Manalapan Montessori Celebrates Earth Day!

Earth Day falls on a Saturday this year, so we have been working on Earth Day lessons, activities, and crafts all week! Friday, April 21st, we will celebrate our planet in class and discuss what we can do to help our Earth.

We have learned about different ways that we can help the earth, such as how to separate recycling and how to prevent litter.

Children will also learn all about Earth, it’s atmosphere, and the environment.

Some things you can do at home is to involve children in recycling, gardening, reusing and repurposing items, and learning how to compost.

Let’s love our earth!

                    Our  Earth

The Earth is ours to enjoy
For every little girl and boy
But we must always be aware
That all its beauty we must share
With all the children yet to come,
Who want to laugh and play and run
Around the trees and in the fields.

So we must keep our planet free
From messy trash and debris
With air that’s clean and fresh and clear
For all to breathe from year to year
We must never ever abuse
Our Sweet Earth That’s ours to use.

Why Parent-Teacher Conferences Are Important

Beginning preschool is a major milestone, and a Montessori preschool provides a great academic foundation for the youngest members of society.

As we begin our spring Parent-Teacher conferences this week Tuesday April 4 – Thursday April 6, many parents may be wondering what kind of information their child’s teacher will share with them during their meeting.

Why are conferences important?

Your child’s teacher spends a good of time with the children in the class and gets to know each child’s personality and strengths. A teacher can give you insight in your child’s development that you might not otherwise have.

What kind of information will my child’s teacher share?

Each child’s teacher will share an individualized progress report assessing math, language, fine and gross motor skills, and social interaction.

What kind of information will my child’s teacher share?

You don’t need to do any sort of preparation for your conference, but you may find it helpful if you put together a list of questions or concerns.

If you are unable to attend during our parent teacher conference days, please reach out to your child’s teacher to see if you can make alternate arrangements.

Fun Crafts for Kids: Coloring Eggs for Spring

During the spring holidays, there are many holidays that incorporate hard boiled eggs. Coloring eggs is a fun activity for children of all ages. Egg activities incorporate several different skills that are beneficial. Children can develop practical life skills while helping in the kitchen, and decorating fosters creativity and hones fine motor skills.

The First Step: Hard Boiling Your Eggs

There are a lot of different recipes out there for making the perfect hard boiled eggs. Many people like to eat hard boiled eggs in egg salad or even alone – but not if they’re overcooked!

After doing egg crafts year after year, we have learned a great way to get the perfect egg every time, without overcooking the yolk.

 What you will need:

  • A dozen eggs and an egg carton
  • One large pot
  • A slotted spoon
  • A large bowl
  • Ice
  • And, of course, water!

Cooking the eggs

Place your eggs gently into your large pot and cover completely with water, with at least one inch of water on top of your eggs. Set on your stovetop and cook on high until your water reaches a rolling boil.  After the water is boiling, remove the pot from heat and set aside for 12-13 minutes.

In this time, fill the large bowl with col water and ice. When 12-13 minutes have passed, use a slotted spoon to gently transfer the eggs from the pot to the bowl.

After your eggs cool, you’ll have perfectly cooked hard boiled eggs ready for decorating! Reuse the original egg cartons for storage, or save for other crafts.

Some Tips:

  • You don’t have to run out and buy white eggs! Don’t  be afraid to use brown or other colored eggs. You may find that colorful eggs will take on a deeper hue when you dye them, and it’s fun for kids to see the different varieties.
  • You can dye eggs with food coloring, egg coloring kits, or even other fun tie-dye techniques.
  • Get creative. You can use crayons on your eggs before dyeing to create fun original designs or to personalize your eggs. Stickers and glitter are also always a lot of fun!

Here are some fun crafts we found using Pinterest for you to try at home!

March Blizzard Predicted in New Jersey

State of Emergency

In anticipation of a blizzard expected to hit New Jersey Monday night into Tuesday, Governor Chris Christie has declared a state of emergency.

Schools are closing throughout the state, with Manalapan Township schools announcing closings early Monday afternoon. In accordance with a state of emergency, Manalapan Montessori will be closed Tuesday, March 14, 2017.

Safety Concerns

Weather conditions are expected to be hazardous, with snowfall totals predicted between 12″ and 18″ in the area. In a state of emergency, all non-essential vehicles should avoid driving on the roads, in order to keep them clear for snow plows, police and other emergency vehicles.

In addition, most garbage pick-up is suspended and drivers are advised to move their cars out of flood zones and emergency routes.

Time to “Spring Ahead!”

Set Your Clocks Ahead

Spring is on the horizon! Although we have a blizzard on the horizon, it’s time to “spring ahead” and set our clocks forward 1 hour tonight, because Daylight Savings Time begins on March 12th. Clocks will move forward at 2:00 AM.

Did you know?

  • Most of the United States will be setting their clocks ahead tonight, except for Hawaii, Arizona (except in cases where Navajo on tribal lands observe DST), and United States territories including Puerto Rico, The U.S. Virgin Islands, American Samoa, Guam, and the Northern Mariana Islands.
  • Daylight Savings Time was extended by several weeks under the Energy Policy Act of 2005.
  • The United States didn’t adopt Daylight Savings Time until 1918, when it was called “Fast Time.” It was introduced by then President Woodrow Wilson. DST was an initiative started by Pittsburgh industrialist Robert Garland. To support the war effort, President Wilson signed it into law during World War I.
